Users of Telegram can now send each other the stablecoin for Tether. The messaging app informed its users on Wednesday that the wallet feature now supports USDT-TRON, also known as TRC20.

With a market cap of $78 billion, USDT is the third-largest cryptocurrency after Bitcoin and Ethereum. It is also a stablecoin, which means that the U.S. dollar serves as the foundation for its value.

Although USDT is available on a variety of blockchains, Telegram will only support the TRC20 asset for the time being.

The native token of Tron, TRX, is the fifteenth largest cryptocurrency by market cap. Tron aims to serve as the backbone of the decentralized Internet. Its blockchain can be used quickly and affordably.

On its network, however, users can also use stablecoins. The announcement on Telegram stated that “You can also directly send USDT to your friends with no transaction fees. You can now buy, swap, and make P2P trades with Tether USDT (TRC20).

When it introduced its Telegram Open Network (TON) in 2018, Telegram first added cryptocurrency to its app. Telegram gave up on the project in 2020 after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ruled that the project’s ICO was unlawful.
